From The Creative Process by Carol Burke and Molly Best Tinsley 1993:
Write a letter to someone you know or to someone from your past in which you describe a certain scene, event, or incident in sensory detail. Trim the excess and transform this letter into a poem.
Okay, here’s the challenge. Write a poem about a person focusing on an object connected with that person. For instance, say a favorite aunt had a quilt she always wrapped herself in at night while she sat in her favorite chair, or maybe a scarf that you loved and lost and how you felt when you wore that scarf. Get the jist? Okay, write one and share.
